SURPRISE, SURPRISE! THE USCCB OPPOSES SENSIBLE IMMIGRATION REFORM

In the ongoing negotiation to secure the funding of the government, President Donald Trump announced his openness to a proposal which would create a pathway to citizenship for 1.8 million illegal aliens (people brought to the United States as children), the so-called “Dreamers”.

The President, however, insisted that such a proposal would only be accepted in exchange for increased funding for border security and for an end to “chain-migration” and diversity visa lottery policies.

As expected, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) has voiced its reservations to such a negotiated resolution regarding Dreamers.

In an interview with Catholic News Agency, Bill Canny, executive director of the USCCB’s Migration and Refugee Services Offices, said that while the Bishops agree that border security is important, this proposal is only going to create animosity between Republicans and Democrats and will not improve the current situation for the “Dreamers.”

“The Bishops believe that it’s important the citizenry is protected, that our borders are secure, and that we don’t live in any fear,” he said.

However, the USCCB was concerned that a “high amount” of money was being put into various enforcement measures that the Conference believes will not lead to any sort of progress or agreement.

“The debate will not be fruitful” if the current proposal stands, he said.  Stay focused on the Dreamers – we know border security is an issue.”

As for the proposed restrictions on what’s being referred to as “chain migration” or “family reunification,” the USCCB believes that the updated definition of “family” – which prevents immigrants from sponsoring visas for their parents, siblings, or adult children – is “very troubling.”

I suggest that the USCCB could have saved its time by not issuing any statement regarding these negotiations because anyone with any familiarity with the Conference already knows the USCCB has been and will continue to be in favor of unlimited illegal immigration into this country.

And many, especially myself, suspect that the reason the Conference has taken this position against the rule of law and our country’s rightful protection of its borders and its citizens is because the Bishops hope to swell the ranks of the faithful which they believe these Latin American illegal aliens represent.

The leftist Democratic Party insists on unlimited illegal immigration in a crass attempt to garner future votes in its favor.

What a curious alliance the leftist Democratic Party and the USCCB have formed.

The Democratic Party is avowedly opposed to almost every moral tenet of Christianity and Catholicism.  Leftist Democrats support unlimited abortion, same-sex marriage, the entire LGBT agenda, repression of religious expression in the workplace and public square.  Still, these same leftists find themselves in a curious alliance with Catholic Bishops when it comes to protecting criminals who have entered this country illegally.

But no one should be surprised since the USCCB has long been associated with a leftist radical political agenda for decades.

As for me, I am concerned that President Trump’s proposal to double the number of illegals (1.8 million) who may be admitted to a pathway toward citizenship will only encourage continued illegal border crossings in the future.

How many illegals are legitimate Dreamers is anyone’s guess.  Any adult can claim he or she was brought here as a child with no way of ascertaining whether that claim is true or not since their presence in this country is undocumented.

My solution: a patient and orderly process of deportation of all undocumented persons residing in this country, beginning with those who engage in criminal activity.  Those whose presence here is a violation of the sovereign laws of this country must depart, willingly or unwillingly.

Where laws are ignored or disrespected in favor of any group for any reason, the rights of all citizens are jeopardized.

The Democratic Party and its ally, the USCCB, resolutely insist on denying this fundamental political truth and resisting any reasonable and legal resolution of the crisis.

I still wonder how Catholic schools are teaching our children about the need to respect rightful authority and observe the laws of our country and the rights of its citizens?

How can they be taught one thing and see their Bishops ignore these teachings so blatantly and not be confused and frustrated?

How can the Church continue to exert any moral authority when it ignores the very values to which it should be committed?

And we wonder why the pews are emptier and emptier with each succeeding generation?
