THE NANCY PELOSI THEOLOGICAL METHOD: APPROVE THE SYNOD FINAL REPORT BEFORE PRAYERFUL AND ADEQUATE DELIBERATION OF ITS CONTENT

Oh my!

Remember the famous words of then-Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, who chided Americans with critical reservations about the Affordable Care Act,  “Congress had first to vote and pass the bill before knowing what was in it”?

Remember?

Sounded insane didn’t it?

Fast forward to the recent Synod on Youth.

Significant complaints during and after the Synod involved that matter of translation obstacles the Synodal Fathers encountered during their discussions and deliberations.

The text of the Final Report was read in Italian in the Synod Hall and was only available in writing in Italian as well.

Over half the Synodal Fathers had no familiarity with the Italian language and were never provided translation assistance.

Among those who complained about this, Archbishop Chaput of Philadelphia wrote about the ambiguity of rules and process at the Youth Synod, and also the lack of needed translations.

There was friction because of the translation problems at the Youth Synod and it was unclear why the Synod Secretariat did not takes steps to see that translations were provided.

In his concluding address, Pope Francis said that the Final Report of the Synod on Youth now needs to be prayed over, studied and reflected upon, before it magisterial import can be fully appreciated.

But shouldn’t prayer, study and reflection have been most suitable before the Final Report was approved?

Go figure!
