The National Catholic Reporter website has posted an article entitled, "Prelates in Austria, Germany offer support to Pope Francis".
I find the title and the article very curious indeed.
It quotes Cardinal Christoph Schonborn of Vienna who published a column September 7th in the weekly newspaper Heute with a strong message backing the pope, calling the pontiff a "fighter against injustice and exploitation" who "stands against sexual abuse in the church with great determination."
In Germany, four bishops previously at odds in the debate over communion for civilly divorced and remarried Catholics are said to be unanimous in their call for Catholics to remain loyal to the Pope.
What is most curious is that none of these Prelates even comes close to suggesting that the Holy Father defend not only his personal reputation but the Office of the Vicar of Christ by responding directly to the allegations made against him and by providing the documents which can easily provide the evidence of his innocence as well as disprove the claims which Archbishop Vigano has made.
Why all this posturing about who is FOR Pope Francis and who is AGAINST him?
Let the facts come out and speak for themselves.
The crisis facing the Church at this moment is the confidence in the hierarchy which has been so badly shaken.
The more these Prelates engage in political posturing, the more it appears that there may be evidence available in the form of documentary proofs which would establish the truth of much of which Archbishop Vigano has alleged.
Let’s put the bickering to rest.
All faithful Catholics support the Petrine Office and Pope Francis.
But we also support the truth being told.
Prelates in Austria, Germany and elsewhere seem to suggest that we can't support both Pope Francis and the truth at the same time.
I find that curious indeed.
What thinkest you?
